Product description

This recall involves assorted Yardworks Assist Kids Garden Tools. The affected Canadian Tire product number is 059-7144. This recall includes all units purchased between 2019 and 2021. The Yardworks Kids Garden Tools will have a 5-digit manufacturing date code. All codes ending in 19, 20 or 21 are affected by this recall. The batch code can be found on a sticker above the UPC code on the unit. See images for example.

Hazard identified

Testing performed by Canadian Tire Corporation of Canada showed that the accessible surface coating and applied surface coating components of the garden tools contain barium in excess of the allowable limit in the Canadian Toys Regulations.

As of March 24th, 2021 the company has received no reports of incidents or injury in Canada.

Number sold

The company reported that 42,500 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from January, 2019 to March, 2021.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to any Canadian Tire store for a full refund.
