Product description

This recall involves 5-tray food dehydrators. The dehydrators are gray and are made of plastic and metal. The model number 1009 is on a label located on the back panel with the company’s contact details. The “LEM” logo is embossed on the top of the unit, which has a panel with the digital timer, the on/off switch and a temperature control knob. The UPC code is printed on the bottom of the packaging and reads 734494010091.

Hazard identified

The fan can fail causing the unit to overheat, posing a fire hazard.

LEM Products Distribution has received two reports in the United States of fan motor failure, resulting in a fire in the unit. There were no injuries reported. LEM Products Distribution has received one report of a dehydrator overheating in Canada, resulting in the melting of the trays and causing smoke to emit from the unit. There were no injuries or property damage.

Number sold

This recall involves approximately 107 units in Canada and approximately 14,600 units in the United States. The affected products were sold at mass merchandisers and retailers across Canada and online at Amazon.com and www.lemproducts.com.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from August 2010 to February 2013.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.
