Product description

The recall includes Viking 61-centimetre (24-inch) Professional, Designer and Custom Panel dishwashers manufactured between May and September 2010.

The dishwashers were sold in black, white and 24 other custom colours, stainless steel and with custom wood panels. The name Viking appears on the control panel at the top of the door.

The model and serial number are located on the identification plate mounted on the inside on the left side of the dishwasher door opening. The first six numbers in the serial number are the manufacture date in mmddyy format, e.g., serial number 052610 was manufactured on May 26, 2010.

Hazard identified

In Model 325 and Model 450 dishwashers manufactured between May 26, 2010 and September 15, 2010, an electrical component in the dishwasher can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Viking has received reports of 23 incidents involving melted or ignited electrical connectors. Of the 23 incidents, there have been seven reports of fire beneath dishwashers resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these dishwashers.

Number sold

Approximately 300 units of the affected dishwashers were sold at appliance and specialty retail stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The affected dishwashers were from June 2010 to March 2012.

Place of origin

Manufactured in the United States.
