Health Canada is advising consumers not to use Ocean Plasma Isotonic Living Water and Ocean Plasma Hypertonic Living Water because they are unapproved products that contain unacceptable amounts of aerobic bacteria.

These products are marketed by Ocean Plasma Incorporated of Montreal, Québec as drinkable purified ocean water mineral supplements. The product is promoted for use for detoxification and relief of fatigue and stress. They are sold in liquid form in 100 ml and 1 L bottles. The labels of the products indicate dosage amounts for children and infants.

These products could pose a significant risk to health as they contain unacceptable amounts of aerobic bacteria, organisms that live or grow where oxygen is present. Potential adverse effects of ingesting products that contain unacceptable amounts of bacteria include fever, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Infants and children are more sensitive to these effects and severe vomiting and diarrhea could lead to potentially life-threatening dehydration.

Ocean Plasma Isotonic Living Water and Ocean Plasma Hypertonic Living Water are sold directly to consumers over the Internet and at retail in Canada. Health Canada has requested the recall of the product.

No adverse reactions associated with these products have been reported to Health Canada. Consumers who have used these products and who are concerned about their health should contact a health care professional for advice.

Products that have been authorized for sale by Health Canada will either bear an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN), a Natural Product Number (NPN) or a Homeopathic Drug Number (DIN-HM). This authorization indicates that the product has been assessed by Health Canada for safety, efficacy and quality.
