Product description

This recall involves the Mastercraft 50 foot (15 m) and 100 foot (30.48 m), 12/3 gauge, 3-tap, Outdoor Extension Cords. Impacted products can be identified by the four-digit batch code located on the male end, with the first two digits indicating the month and the last two indicating the year the product was manufactured.  All products manufactured between October 2015 and February 2017 will be included in the recall. The recalled products were certified by UL with certification file number E184278.

Hazard identified

The prongs have been incorrectly inserted into the mould, which can produce sparks from the female end of the cord, posing a risk of injury.

As of March 14, 2017, the company has received four reports of sparks coming from the female end of the cord in Canada, and no reports of injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 132,175 units of the affected products were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled product was sold in Canada from October 2015 to March 2017.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected Mastercraft 50' and 100' 12/3 gauge, 3-tap, Outdoor Extension Cords and return the product to their local Canadian Tire store for a refund.
